Tonight Lola Blau
Also released in 1980, the songs from the stage show of the same name. Accompanied by Dale Ringland, the songs written by Viennese Georg Kreisler and translated by Don White, tell the story of Lola, driven out of Vienna in the Nazi period, her demoralising journey to Hollywood and a return to the post war cabaret scene in Europe. This is a fictionalised version of the real story of so many German speaking artists who became exiles in the 1930s.
The recording features the marathon satire 'Herr Direktor' which star Cate Blanchett said she was afraid to use in an audition because she was so daunted by Archer's version.
